What should I wear to a trial or first class?

For you to have the best experience at BKD Performers we recommend wearing clothes you feel comfortable in and suitable for your chosen class. A t-shirt and leggings/trackies and bare feet is absolutely fine for most dance classes. For tap trials we recommend wearing school shoes or lace ups and for street funk we would suggest a clean pair of trainers

Is there a uniform for classes?

Our students are proud to be a part of Team BKD and take great care of their appearance.  Our uniform has been selected to look smart, facilitate learning with minimal distraction and keep the students safe.   All information about what to wear in class can be found on our UNIFORM page

We have an online SHOP that we are adding items to on a weekly basis. If there is something you need but cannot find in the shop please email and we will be happy to assist you.

Yes we do offer Royal Academy of Dance Ballet examinations from Primary in Dance onwards. The exams offer a wonderful opportunity for the students to work towards and gain confidence when they receive their certificates and medals.

From September 2019 we will be offering ISTD Modern and Tap from Pre Primary to Grade 2

You are welcome to just move up the levels when the teachers feel you are ready.

Yes we most certainly do, we know how often boys give up dance class because they were the ‘only boy’ in class. So we started a class exclusively for boys! BKD Boys is designed to allow boys to express themselves in dance and learn how strong a male dancer needs to be through technique and strength training.

Of course! We would never discourage anyone from exploring their passion for dance or the arts!

What is watching Week?

Towards the end of each term we invite the parents, family and friends into watch class to see what we have been learning. You are welcome to join the Ballet, Tap and Jazz classes for the whole class, however for Musical theatre, Acrobatics and Street Funk we ask that you come along for the last 15 mins of class.

What is involved in Fun Weeks and Parents do BKD?

Towards the end of each term we will have a FUN WEEK where we wear silly clothes and hairstyles to class and in the summer (non show years only) PARENTS DO BKD is where all the parents are invited to join their childs class! Heaps of fun and a lovely way to end the term!

My child has additional educational needs, can they take part in classes?

Absolutely! We are an inclusive theatre school and do our best to work with parents and students to give everyone a chance to perform and progress in theatrical arts. We discuss with every individual their particular needs in order to participate safely and so they get the best out of the whole experience. We work with many children with with ADHD, Asperger’s, ASD, OD and a variety of medical conditions and in our caring and inclusive environment they are thriving in classes.
