Crews and Companies

Our Crew & Company auditions 2024will be held ON

Sunday 14th July 2024

All current Crew & Company members must also re audition for a space

Each year we hold auditions for students to be selected for the Crews and Companies. We have them across all genres Ballet, Jazz, Street Funk, Contemporary, Acrobatics and Musical Theatre. We also invite students throughout the year to join the pre vocational training. We work at a faster pace and set high standards. These groups will participate in competitions, festivals and events throughout the year.

Our aim is to prepare them for the industry should they wish to pursue a career in the arts.

MTC (Musical Theatre Company) MINIS, Juniors & Seniors

We select our students that show promise in musical theatre for the company class. Performers work in singing, dancing & acting to put together group pieces, solo songs and monologues.

ACTING THROUGH SONG GROUP

This group focuses on singing and acting only and work on both group and individual pieces.

Jazz and Co JUNIORS & Seniors

We will invite industry professionals to choreograph pieces and work with the students to discover their talents in dance and choreography. Students work on technique and learn choreography spanning both Jazz & Contemporary styles. Dancers must also attend a ballet class to subsidise their training.

Entry via audition or invite only.

Street Funk CREW Juniors & seniors

BKD Company and Crew Contract for Performers 2023/24 Season

Placement

Placement in BKD Companies and Crews are based on technique, potential, commitment, enthusiasm, attitude and behaviour in class. We place students in groups that we feel will work best together in rehearsals and performances. Company and Crew members are selected by BKD teachers and we will reassess each student as they progress.

Attendance & Commitment

A Company or Crew is a team and is expected to behave like a team. We require all performers to attend all classes and rehearsal. Absences will not only affect the individual, but the team as a whole. There will be times when a performer is granted an absence for a good reason or for illness that could put others at risk. However, if you are injured or have a minor illness you will still be expected to observe class so that you do not fall too far behind.

We have a 3 strike rule in place for all Company and Crew members. The first will be a verbal warning. A second strike will mean that we will write to the parents / carers. A third strike will be a final warning and after that your placement will be reviewed and you will loose your place as a Company or Crew member.

Once offered a place you will be committed until the end of the season (end of summer term 2024) and will be expected to be available for all competition and performance dates.

Performers are expected to come to class on time and prepared with the appropriate dance wear.

Being a member of the BKD companies and Crews is a privilege and you are not only representing yourselves but you are also a representative of BKD Performers.

Your behaviour outside of the studio must also reflect the values we hold at BKD Performers.

Courtesy & Respect

All Company and Crew members will be held to the highest standard of conduct. Communicating negatively about anyone inside or outside of the studio will not be tolerated. Company and Crew members are expected to show courtesy and respect to all instructors, students and other people when out at events. Our Company and Crew members should be respectful, supportive, encouraging and positive in spirit, attitude and behaviour.

Life Experience

Performing is the most wonderful thing to be able to experience - have fun! You’ll gain a lifetime of memories and friendships during this time together. We all want this to be a positive and rewarding experience for everyone.
